Modalities
Sessions draw upon these various modalities...
Compassionate Inquiry
"Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world.
Using Compassionate Inquiry, both the individual and therapist unveil the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.
Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them."
Massage Therapy
Treatments are always customized to what the client is seeking and would benefit the most from. Nonetheless, my massages are typically a well rounded treatment of targeted, deep work where it's needed, balanced with more relaxing, flowing techniques and restorative stretches.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a slow, meditative and contemplative form of yoga, giving you the opportunity to cultivate and experience spaciousness as you tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of the body. Physically, it targets deep connective tissues, such as fascia, ligaments, and joints.
Reiki
Reiki is a form of energy work from a Japanese lineage. In a session, gentle touch is used to channel vital life force energy to promote balance and healing.
Somatic Therapy
Several of the modalities I practice fall under the category of Somatic Therapy because honestly, Somatic work is a broad umbrella. Somatic approaches are incredibly effective at treating mental, emotional, and physical issues by establishing connection and cultivating awareness of the body. Foundational to the work is the understanding that so much of what we are experiencing lives first and foremost in the body (which is also to say the subconscious) and therefore serves as our entry point to healing at the root of issues.
Breath Work
While there are many various forms of breath work, I predominately teach pranayama, which is ancient yogic breathing techniques. By means of consciously altering our breath we have the ability to profoundly influence our nervous system and thus our energy, emotions, immune system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, cognitive function, respiratory system and even our thoughts.
Somatic Stress Release ™
Somatic Stress Release is a holistic system to enhance body awareness and increase capacity to complete biological stress responses. For it is when we don't complete these responses that illness, chronic pain, and trauma occur. The intention is to restore and optimize your fundamental ability to adapt and navigate life with ease and agency. You will learn how to enhance your capacity to identify internal responses to stressors, and mobilize that energy towards restoration and ease.
Mindfulness
While most people know of mindfulness as a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment, my approach to mindfulness takes things to a whole other level. When we are incorporating mindfulness into a session, we are altering our brain waves, working with our neurobiology and psychophysiology to harness the power of neuroplasticity to heal, transform, and create the life and experiences we desire! This is seriously life changing work, and yes, it all begins with meditation.
NeuroAffective Touch
NeuroAffective Touch integrates the body, brain, nervous system, and touch with traditional psychotherapy. It is a polyvagal-informed model that brings unconscious memories held in the body into conscious awareness. Working with the nervous system, NATouch helps establish a new somatic foundation from which to rework trauma-based unconscious behavioral responses and rebuild self-awareness and identity.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of facilitating the body's natural healing processes by working with the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as Post Traumatic Stress, depression and anxiety.
Clinical Somatics
Clinical Somatics engages the nervous system in an active learning process that consists of very slow, focused, conscious movements. The movement techniques used in Clinical Somatics teach the nervous system how to release chronic muscle tension and stand and move in natural, efficient ways. These simple practices are a highly effective preventative and antidote to chronic pain, tension, and the diminishing mobility that comes with aging.
Ritual + Ceremony
Ritual and ceremony have been an integral cornerstone of culture, civilization, and ultimately humanity, for as long as we have existed. Yet, in these modern times, many of us have lost touch with this profound healing art of intentionality. When we are in ritual and ceremony, we are working in the liminal spaces, the world of symbolism and intuition - and as such, we are inhabiting the subconscious. This is fertile territory for healing, transformation, creation, and more to occur. Additionally, getting back in touch with an art that our ancestors lived by has it's own power in and of itself.
